Spring cleaning is a huge project, and if you are actually moving during this time then you have two homes to go through the process with. You have probably been told plenty of great moving advice for packing, unpacking, etc., but if you are like many others you need help in the cleaning department. Not that you do not know how to clean by any means! However, if you are cleaning the home you are moving out of as well as the one you are moving into then you can likely use all the helpful cleaning hacks you can possibly get.
- Use a squeegee to pull pet hair off the carpet and furniture. You may be surprised at how much hair your vacuum leaves behind in the fibers.
- Coca-Cola can be used to clean limescale and other unsightly stains from your toilet. Pour the beverage around the rim so it drains into the bowl, and let it sit for at least an hour. The acids will eat the stains.
- Lemon will get rid of hard water stains on your fixtures. Just cut one in half, rub it on, and let the juice sit a while before you rinse away.
- Dryer sheets remove water stains from glass shower doors. This is a hack to remember if you are having an open house to sell your home.
- A fork can fluff the carpet. Use the tines to fluff fibers to their original height after a heavy piece of furniture has left a dent.
- Polish your stovetop with car wax. It will look brand new and help stop future spills from sticking.
- Repair hardwood floors or scratches in your wood furniture with a walnut. Rub a shelled nut into the scratch, and the oils hide the flaws.
- Put a tension rod under the sink to hang all your cleaning supplies by their spray handle.
- A mixture of white vinegar and baking soda paired with an old toothbrush will clean the grout. For serious stains, apply shoe whitener to the area and leave for about an hour before rinsing away.
- Put a glass of water in the microwave on high for one minute. The steam will loosen stains, so they can be wiped away.
- Remove crayons, ink, or pencil marks from a wall with baking soda. Sprinkle some on a damp sponge and gently scrub away.
- Clean iron stains and lime deposits in a dishwasher with lemonade-flavored Kool-Aid. Put it in the detergent cup, and run an empty load.
- Use a pillowcase to clean fan blades. Place it over the blade so the blade is actually inside the case, and pull it towards you, holding the case ends together, so the filth stays inside.
- Clean stainless steel surfaces with flour. Sprinkle dry flour on the surface and buff it with a soft rag. It will bring back the shine.
- Windex can be used on old carpet stains. Spray the stained area, so it is fully saturated, but not soaked. Rub really hard with an old towel to soak it up. The stain will lift. You may need to repeat it a few times.
- Do not wait until spring to deep clean again. The best moving advice to keep in mind is that if you pick one room to deep clean every week (beyond the normal cleaning you do more often) then you will not need to do spring cleaning at all.
